Countersett Hall is ideally placed for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. It is 5 miles from the pretty villages of Hawes and Askrigg yet enjoys seclusion, peace and privacy. There is an excellent restaurant at the Yorbridge House Hotel, 2 miles away in Bainbridge, along with a tearoom, pub and basic grocery store. There are 3 pubs and a tearoom in Askrigg and lots of cafes, pubs and shops in Hawes. There are fantastic walks, too many to mention! Several start from the house and have beautiful views of nearby Lake Semerwater. Aysgarth Falls and Hadraw Force are beautiful waterfalls nearby. Bikes can be hired in Hawes, and we have space in our lockable stable if you wish to bring your own. The house is situated in a very peaceful spot with little light pollution and you will see millions of stars on a clear night and lots of wildlife during the day.
There is horse riding and trekking available just up the road and water sports can be booked on the beautiful Lake Semerwater (you have to provide your own craft), 5 minutes' walk away, or simply enjoy paddling your feet in the water on a hot day. There is also an annual charity swim in the lake during August. There are red squirrel trails in nearby Snaizeholme, caving, breweries, museums, beautiful stately homes, ruined abbeys and castles all within easy reach. Watch out for the agricultural shows throughout August and September which provide a great day out for families and friends and a real insight into Dales life. There is a folder full of information and print-outs of walks and plenty of guide/walking books available at the house.
